Book Nook Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-04-26
Book Nook ("Book Nook," "we," "us") is a personal reading-tracker app. This page explains what data the app collects, where it lives, and the controls you have. Plain English, short on lawyer-speak.
Two ways to use Book Nook
You can use Book Nook without an account. In that mode, every book you add, every reading session you log, and every rating, review, and note you write stays on your phone. We can't see any of it because none of it leaves your device.
You can also create an account. An account is required only to use the Friends feature — it lets you find other readers, accept friend requests, and let friends browse your three shelves.
What we collect when you create an account
- Email address — used to sign you in and to send the account-confirmation email.
- Username and display name — the username is how friends find you; the display name is what they see.
- Profile photo (optional) — only if you upload one in Edit Profile.
- Your shelves — for each book you add, we sync these fields to our backend so friends can see them: title, author, genre, total page count, cover image URL, cover color, which shelf it's on (Off the Shelf / On the Shelf / Finished), your star rating (if you set one), and your public review (if you write one).
That's the entire list.
What we never send off your device
These stay local to your phone, full stop:
- Your current page in any book.
- The time you've spent reading or your reading-session history.
- Your private notes — these never leave your device, ever.
